Research Services: Catalog

The Catalog in a Nutshell

  • The catalog contains a listing of most of Schaffer Library's holdings including books, ebooks, DVDs, government documents, sound recordings, musical scores, maps, manuscripts and more.

Use the Catalog when

  • You're looking for a particular item at Schaffer Library
  • You want to find books or other items on a specific subject

Search the Catalog

Or click here for Advanced Search.

Search Tips

  • Search specific fields, by choosing the field from the drop-down or by using the limiters (a:author, t:title, d:subject, n:note). For example, if you want to search for all the works of Shakespeare, you would write a:shakespeare. If you wanted to search for "The Tempest" you would write a:shakespeare t:tempest. For more advanced searches, use the Advanced Keyword search.
  • The subject search uses a specific, controlled vocabulary for describing Library material. If you do not find what you are looking for in the subject index, try a keyword search or ask a Librarian for assistance.
  • To find Union College theses, search the catalog by Department, Author, or Title via the drop-down menu.
  • If you cannot find material in the catalog, try Summon, then Connect NY (and NExpress). Finally, if you can't find it in any of those places, try  Interlibrary Loan.
