ILL Tips

  • Start your research early. While articles can come through ILL in just hours, it could take days (and sometimes weeks) to receive materials depending on location and rarity.
  • Only use ILL when you're sure you can't find materials through the catalog, Connect NY, or NExpress.
  • To request material, check the status of an request, or pick up an article, log in to the ILLiad Interlibrary Loan System.
  • When requesting material, fill in as much information as you can. Sometimes you can get the computer to do this for you. If you're searching for an article in Summon and you see "Citation Online" instead of "Full Text Online," click the title and look for an orange "Request" button. After clicking, it'll prompt you to log in to ILLiad and -- voila -- will fill in most of the information for you. When taking this shortcut, however, be sure to double-check that the information is correct.
  • If you need help finding, requesting, or accessing material, see a librarian.
