Geographic Information Systems (GIS): International Data

Their main objective is to develop a free, and simple but versatile GIS program, that is particularly useful for studying the distribution of biodiversity. DIVA also provides free international geospatial downloads compatible with ArcGIS, including high resolution LandSat, 90m DEMs, climate data, species occurrence and crop data.

GISCO is responsible for the management and dissemination of the Geographical reference database of the Commission. It produces maps, spatial analysis and promotes geo-referencing of statistics.

Provides sound, independent information on the environment. They are a major information source for those involved in developing, adopting, implementing and evaluating environmental policy, and also the general public.

The Food and Agriculture Organization produces a large number of Geographic Information System (GIS) datasets for monitoring, assessment and analysis of environmental and socio-economic factors causing poverty and food insecurity. Particular relevance is given to malnutrition, farming systems and crops, livestock production systems, fishery and forestry sectors, agro-ecological zoning, land and water resources management and climate related issues.
