This LibGuide is the location to find up-to-date resources and data regarding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic crisis. As more data and resources are made available, those sources will be added to this guide after being vetted and checked for relevance and accuracy. The resources can be found under the "Datasets" tab. The topmost column contains links to publicly-available datasets, while the lower column contains links to important or useful resources for interpreting and making sense of the large quantities of data and information coming out on a daily basis about the COVID-19 pandemic.
Coronavirus: Any virus of the family Coronaviridae, which are single-strand RNA viruses characterized by a lipid envelope studded with club-shaped projections. From the Latin "corona," meaning crown.
COVID-19: COrona VIrus Disease 2019. Also referred to as "2019 novel coronavirus" or "2019-nCoV."
Epidemic: An outbreak of a disease in a certain community at a specific time.
Pandemic: An outbreak of a disease that has spread over a wide geographic area and affected a significant proportion of the population.
Case Fatality Rate (CFR): The proportion of deaths from a certain disease compared to the total number of people diagnosed with that disease for a certain period of time.
Mortality Rate: A measure of the number of deaths in a particular population, scaled to the size of that population, per unit of time.
R0 (R-nought): The basic reproduction number of an infection. Defined as the expected number of cases directly generated by one case in a population full of susceptible individuals.
