What Is Attribution?
Attribution is how credit is given to the creator of an openly licensed resource that is reused in your resource. It is similar to citation: whereas citation is ethical: a way of avoiding plagiarism, attribution is legal: a way of avoiding copyright infringement. If you use an openly licensed resource in an OER that you are creating or adapting, please attribute the creator of that resource.
How to Attribute a Resource
To give credit for using openly licensed work, use the acronym TASL:
- Title: what is the name of the work?
- Author: what is the name of the creator?
- Source: where can I find the work? (url, etc.)
- License: how can I use the work?
