Open & Affordable Educational Resources Guide

Union College Guide to OER, Textbook Affordability, etc.

Examples of OER Use at Union College

This page highlights Union faculty who use OER in their classes and / or create OER for their and others' use, as their thoughtfulness makes education more accessible to others. We're highlighting them both to celebrate our campus's OER adopters and creators, and to normalize OER use and creation to help other faculty feel comfortable about doing the same.

If you are or know of a Union faculty member who uses OER in her or his class, please let us know so that we may feature her or him on this page.

And thank you to our faculty OER adopters and creators--they save students money and make education more open and accessible!

Open Textbook Champions at Union

  1. Francis Wilkin, Senior Lecturer in Physics and Astronomy and Observatory Manager, assigns the entirely free OpenStax Astronomy textbook in his AST-051 "Intro to Astronomy" class. In doing so, he has contributed to saving Union students $17,540.77 on textbook costs in 2020-21.

Open Pedagogy Superstars at Union

  1. Claire Bracken, Associate Professor of English, employs Open Pedagogy in her EGL-302 "Junior Seminar: Literary Theory." Thank you to her and her students: their openly licensed dictionary of literary theory will enhance and share learning both here and beyond.
